Mr. Henriksen was born February 21, 1927, in Astoria, Queens, NY, a son of Christopher Leo Henriksen and Ellen Miley Henriksen. He graduated from LaSalle Academy, NYC, NY, and attended Manhattan College. He joined the United States Navy in 1944, and served with Bombing Squadron 4 during WWII. After the war he continued his career with the Navy. During his 26 years of service, Chief Henriksen had tours of duty with US Naval Forces Command – Europe, Special Command Middle East (Lebanon), Sixth Fleet, and the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, DC. He served with Airgroup-19 aboard the USS Princeton in Korea. He served two tours in Vietnam, with COMUSMACV and DELTANAVFOR CTF-116. He was among the first to serve on nuclear submarines, as a crew member on the USS Lafayette. Mr. Henriksen retired from the Navy in 1972 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a purser with the Military Sealift Command for many years, and retired from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in 1996. A man of uncommon intelligence, Chris was fluent in Vietnamese, and had a comprehensive knowledge of world history. His insights into political and current affairs were valued by all. He loved books, his garden, and a good glass of beer. A lifelong Catholic, Chris practiced his faith in many ways, serving at Mass and visiting orphans while stationed in Vietnam. Many benefitted from his quiet acts of kindness. His dignity, strong moral compass and humor continue to inspire all who knew him. He traveled far, but always kept the mountains of West Shokan in his heart. Mr. Henriksen was survived by Margot, his wife of 55 years; daughters Karen Henriksen, Astrid Henriksen, Ingrid Henriksen and her husband Tod Aufiero, Virginia Henriksen and her husband Ahmed Kablan; sisters Alicia Gallivan and Virginia Keeler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Roser and brother, Arthur F. X. Henriksen. Funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Nativity in James Island, South Carolina. Burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery, also in South Carolina. Son of the late Charles A. and Anna Bolz, Sr., he was born April 21, 1921 in the Bronx. On January 31, 1946 at Holy Rosary Church in the Bronx, he married the former Louise Dennerlein. After forty-nine years of marriage, Mrs. Bolz preceded him in death on June 16, 1995. Charles was a graduate of Manhattan College, Riverdale. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an officer in Special Underwater Ordinance serving on several vessels in the American and European Theaters. Charles was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Lieutenant jg. After military service, Charles joined Central Hudson Gas & Electric as an electrical engineer, and later retired from Central Hudson as Vice President of Engineering and General Services. He also enjoyed playing golf. As soon as Banatte and his team arrived in Port-au-Prince, they went to Hospital St. Francois de Sales, the city’s main medical facility, to recover medical supplies and pushed to get the hospital up and running as soon as possible. “It’s easy to lose sight of our neighbors’ struggles when the story is gone from the front page, and Dr. Banatte’s visit to Manhattan helps keep the continuing struggle in Haiti at the forefront of our minds,” said Lois Harr, director of campus ministry and social action at Manhattan College. O. V. E.) program spent eight days in Ecuador volunteering in partnership with Rostro de Cristo, a Catholic volunteer and retreat program based in Durán, Ecuador. The program strives to provide a life-changing experience for young people from the United States to connect with the people of Ecuador through their common faith and collaborate on long-term solutions to end poverty and to improve the lives of the people. Once the Manhattan volunteers arrived at their residence in Ecuador, they organized an intentional Christian community with shared meals and nightly reflection. They lived very simply throughout the eight days taking military-style showers and eating on less than $2 per day in order to be in solidarity with the people of Ecuador, for whom these are daily realities. During their trip, the Manhattan group visited and spent time with children at three after-school programs run by Rostro de Cristo including Valdevia, Semillas de Mostaza and Manos Abiertas. In addition, the group met with patients at Damien House, a hospital for people affected by Hansen’s Disease, and also went to Nuevo Mundo, a prestigious private school in Ecuador that uses tuition money from affluent students to fund an afternoon school for poor students. While she had heard briefly from her father, there were many others from whom she still has not heard. Sendai should sound familiar. According to news reports, the tsunami which hit the city’s port was 10 meters high. That’s over 30 feet. Many of the worst images we’ve seen have come from this region – the airport underwater, houses and cars washed out to sea, some of them in flames. All I can think of is Ai seeing those same pictures, waiting to hear about her family. He was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Shannon, Kelly, Kate, Scott, Colleen and Bridget, as well as 2 great-grandsons, Luca and Finn.
