POSITRACTION: Chrysanthus and Daria; the legend gets some science

1,700-year-old Saints’ skeletons prove legendary tale of virgin Christian martyrs who were buried alive in ancient Rome was TRUE

*** begin quote ***

The authorities eventually arrested the pair, torturing Chrysanthus and sending Daria to a brothel but according to legend the prison is turned into a garden and Daria’s honour is protected by a lioness. The pair were sentenced to death and buried alive.

*** end quote ***

[JR: It's always interesting when legends are confirmed by science. While not "evidence" in the legal sense, for example, chain of custody. It does prompt the question: "What would you sacrifice your life for?" Clearly, spouse, children, family are obvious choices. But, what "beliefs"? That's an interesting challenge that Chrysanthus and Daria faced? I'd like my challenges to be a lot smaller befitting my lesser character. My fellow Jaspers are much better at the bigger ones. On Mary's Day, what would one die for? God and Country!]

JEMAIL: McFadden, Michael J. [MC1973] cites the full “Virtual Choir”

John, thank you for sharing the introduction to Eric Whiteacre’s Virtual Choir last week. I thought you might want to follow it up with the full piece that’s now available:

Many thanks for all your work on Jottings as always.

Peace be with you.

[JR: I appreciate you completing the story. It is an awesome accomplishment that there "vert chew al kay wire". Makes me feel that Jasper Jottings is like a little kid's refrigerator art. All I can think of is Steven Covey's translation of the word "universe" into "one song" and his frequent comment that we all have a role in the singing of the Universe's "song". Jasper Jottings is an attempt to capture our fellow alumni's song. Badly, imho. Often it just a meager obit. But, it's as real as that "choir". Recently I gave a presentation to two "classes" of girls at my late wife's high school alma mater; trying to inspire them to capture and write their "song". http://goo.gl/ntMIR I know I made them laugh. So maybe I created a budding archivist or two out of the sixty or so young women. (Yes, we were chaperoned. It was a Catholic Academy. And, yes, I did bite my tongue when I felt an "ingineering term" coming on.) In today's inet print on demand, it's so cheap and easy to "publish". Any fool can do it. Even a fat old white guy injineer. As evidence I offer http://www.itstartedinchurch.com, Jasper Jottings, and my personal blog. You're are, of course, most welcome and thanks for the praise of my lame "work". When you look at the Virtual Choir, and compare it with Jasper Jottings, I'm just "hacking". Like the duffer who plays around with a young Tiger Woods. The next collector-in-chief will do much better. But thanks. I enjoy the feedback. Makes me feel just a little less lame. ROFL. Just a little.]

JOBIT: O’Boyle, Patrick J. “P.J.” [MC1959 RIP]

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/pilotonline/obituary.aspx?n=Patrick-OBoyle&pid=150667313

Patrick O’Boyle

VIRGINIA BEACH – Patrick J. “P.J.” O’Boyle died peacefully April 20, 2011 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, where the care he received was superb.

“P.J.” was born in New York City Nov. 10, 1935 and was raised on the West Side of Manhattan. He was the first son of the late Patrick (also a first son) and “Katie” O’Boyle, who had immigrated from their beloved Ireland. He was also predeceased by infant twins, Mary and Patrick Jr.; his good friend and cousin, Thomas Farrell; and longterm friend, Joe Byrns, who P.J. cared for in the last months of his life.

Patrick is survived by two sons, Christopher Grant of Florida and Brendan Patrick of Virginia Beach and their mother and Pat’s loving friend, Mary Jane Rau, R.N. of Florida who cared for him in the final months. He is also survived by one brother, Francis “Frank” O’Boyle Sr. (Anne Marie) of Long Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Sr. Mary Ellen O’Boyle SC, New York City and Sheila Walsh (Bill) of Rochester, N.Y., who contributed significant health information needed by the caregiver, Mary Jane. He leaves a beloved nephew and godson, Frankie Jr. whom he never forgot on holidays or birthdays and his son Frankie. Also surviving are nieces, Carrie and her children Katherine and Elizabeth; Amy and daughter Brooke; and a nephew, Brian Walsh. Surviving also are his brother-in-law, James “Jim” Simmons (Jane) of North Carolina; niece, Cindy Simmons and daughter Lily Jane of Georgia and nephew, Michael (Andrea) and daughter Noe of Nevada.

P.J. had a varied and interesting life, starting with his graduation from Power Memorial, Manhattan College and then with his MBA from Bernard Baruch College of the City University of New York. Prior to his health career, he was an officer and pharmacist mate and sailed with the Merchant Marines on several large liners. He began his health career as the Wage and Salary analyst for the 1000 bed New York Hospital in Manhattan.

Wanting a smaller community to raise his son, Christopher, he accepted the position of the first personnel director of the then fledging and growing Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was instrumental in making many positive changes in the growing hospital, including coordination of the first integrated hospital Christmas party. The “change bug” had bit him and he continued to go where his personnel talents were needed and asked for, including Mount Carmel Hospital, Ohio, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Florida and the Hotel Deau Hospital, El Paso, Texas.

He finally retired, but continued in a less stressful environment as a civilian health care employee for the U.S. Navy at Dam Neck base in Virginia Beach. He remained active in the community as a member of the Oceana Civic League and as secretary of the Consumer’s Funeral Alliance, (FCAT, Bob Clapp, president).

P.J. was a very modest man, always giving credit to others and never seeking the “atta-boy” pat on the back. Patrick, May the road rise to meet you; May the wind be always at your back; and May God hold you in the palm of his hand until we all meet again. Love and “Slain go foill.”

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Star of the Sea Catholic Church on 15th Street, Virginia Beach. Scattering of his ashes will be at a later date at a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food bank or homeless shelter. Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater assisted the family.

ADMINISTRIVIA: Adding a “FEATURED JASPER BLOGGER”

http://goo.gl/53OBH

In order to spread the “link love” around, …

<”link love” is when a site links to another site, google MAY raise both sites in the search results since it is an indication that both sites are worthy. That is not a spamer, “trasher”, or content farm. Or a plagiarizer. Or, some other type of “bad guy”. With a PR of 3, Jasper Jottings has some measure of Google “clout”, often called “juice”, when Google does it’s mystical calculation for search results. Frequently, I see Jasper Jottings on page 1 of searches that I do relative to “manhattan college”, so it has some “juice” with Google. By linking to the blogs of our fellow alums, I’m trying to share the “juice”.>

… I’ve created a page to itemize them, and give them some “link love”.

Hopefully, it helps.

If you’re a Jasper and you blog and you’re not on my list, please send me an email and I’ll add you.

WORDPRESS, the software that “publishes” the Jasper Jottings Daily Blog http://jasperjottings-daily.com/, allows me to “feature” these blogs. So every day, some one gets a link on the front page. FWIW.

Send me an email if you want the “link love”. :-)

Irreconcilable differences / Relics of the third rank

*** begin quote ***

Relics of the third rank are of two categories. The first category is a piece of cloth touched to a first or second class relic of a saint. The second category is a piece of cloth that has been touched to a shrine of the saint. It is permitted to be sold without a charge of simony.

*** and ***

It’s also true for Manhattan College when the administrators deny a fundamental injustice within the institution in order to maintain its ethical ideal as a cohesive socially responsive community in the tradition of LaSalle.

*** end quote ***

[JR: This is hard to read. Do the "administrators deny a fundamental injustice"? That sounds like something I might have written as a baby injineer. Are they denying "injustice"; that's good; right? Or, are they "denying justice"; that bad; right? I'm confused. I'm sure he's trying to slam MC in passing. Sigh. I just don't have the energy to tilt at this windmill. Maybe some one else would like to take a turn. Maybe I'm just sixth or seventh rank relic. Do they go that deep? What's the one for being able to spell "relic"?]

JEMAIL: Stebbins, Donald M (MC1961) thinks I want a “free ride”

Dear Jasper John,

A few comments on your arguments:

1. You seem to believe that the Inquisition was foisted on the Church by the “Gooferment”

In fact the Church was responsible as described on Wikipedia.

“The Inquisition was the “fight against heretics,” with the use of torture, by several institutions within the justice-system of the Roman Catholic Church. It started in the 12th century, with the introduction of torture in the persecution of heresy.[1] Inquisition practices were used also on offences against canon law other than heresy.

The term Inquisition can apply to any one of several institutions which fought against heretics (or other offenders against canon law) within the justice-system of the Roman Catholic Church.

Although similar institutions existed within Calvinist and other Protestant churches, the term “Inquisition” is usually applied to that of the Catholic Church. It may also refer to:[2]

   * an ecclesiastical tribunal

   * the institution of the Catholic Church for combating heresy

   * a number of historical expurgation movements against heresy (orchestrated by some groups/individuals within the Catholic Church or within a Catholic state)

   * the trial of an individual accused of heresy.”

2. Your contention that the poor deserve nothing is contradictory to all Roman Catholic teachings and the Gospels. According to Church doctrines our economic system should give primacy to the poor.

3. You ignore the Church doctrines you don’t like but would enforce the doctrine outlawing abortion and even contraception on everyone using the “gooferment” to do so.

4. You deplore “gooferment” power to collect even pennies in taxes but would give total power to the same outfit to absolutely control the reproductive lives of all women on earth.

5. I doubt that you would live without the “gooferment” services you say you don’t want to pay for.

6. Libertarians want a free ride and that is the essence of their movement. When push came to shove most libertarians would cheer as the “gooferment” jailed or killed poor, old and sick people rather than provide for them.

7. You deplore the modern Democrats for having some connection to Margaret Sanger and through her Joseph Stalin, but you ignore the much closer connection of modern day libertarians to the atheistic libertarian and apostle of selfishness Ayn Rand. Only a small percentage of Democrats has even heard of Margaret Sanger while Republican Rep. Paul Ryan demands that his aides read Rand’s works and many Republicans admire her work greatly.

According to Walter Block, a libertarian writer, http://www.lewrockwell.com/block/block103.html

It cannot be denied that Ayn Rand has had a long, strong and deep relationship with libertarianism. Although she dismissed us as “hippies of the right” (pronounced “ippes of de racht”) many of our number are still enthralled by her, inspired by her, and in debt to her for first introducing us to the moral case for free enterprise. I certainly include myself in this category.

One of the strongest influences she has had on the libertarian movement is her belligerent atheism. For many adherents of the freedom philosophy, an aggressive rejection of God and all things religious might as well be the basic axiom of their world-view.

Sincerely yours.
Donald M Stebbins

Dear Jasper Stebbins,

1. I’m an injineer; not a historian. “Inquisition was foisted on the Church by the Gooferment”. Clearly, The Gooferment and The Church have an incestuous relationship throughout history. The comment about “Inquisition” was to point to how if the Church wanted to purge itself it could has it had in the past do it with a vigor that demonstrate its seriousness. As a little L libertarian, I don’t think ANYONE has the right to initiate force on another human being. If the Church wants “moral authority”, then it has purge the pedophiles. Note: that doesn’t mean they take them to a ditch and shoot them. It does mean that it has to come clean. Who knew what and when. And, let the chips and bishops fall where they may.

2. The poor have no “right” to anyone else’s earnings or wealth. We, as people of Faith, or humanity, have a moral obligation to help. That’s a giant distinction. I’m unfamiliar that “economics” being a matter of “faith and morals”. Capitalism, not the crony capitalism with regulatory capture mercantilism, is the economic model that has raised the world from poverty to where we are now. Communism, fascism, and all the other isms haven’t worked so well. Be nice to get back to freedom and liberty again.

3. Take a peek at Jasper Jottings and find where I said that I want Gooferment to use force to do anything. Except stop initiation of force or fraud. That is why “governments are instituted among men”. We can have a legitimate debate about when does life begin and what is the proper role of government in protecting “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. But, initiating force on real people ain’t in my playbook. The “Right To Life” is more than just abortion. And, you can’t be proud of the Gooferment’s role in “regulating” the death shops.

4. This is tiresome. Where do I want the Gooferment “to absolutely control the reproductive lives of all women on earth”? I don’t like the UN. And, I think that women can take care of their side of their “reproductive lives”. Without my help. The Gooferment’s FDA and taxes make everything harder for women then it has to be.

5. Gooferment can either be the referee or a player. Not both. If there are products and services to be offered, then let the truly free market deliver them. Let me pick and choose what ones I want and let me pay for them. See Gooferment is the only entity that can force me to pay for “services” that I neither want or need. And, then they deliver those badly. I’d like to live in world where I’m free to take or decline ANY service.

6. “Libertarians want a free ride”. What L’s are you talking about? We want the freedom to pay for what we use and only what we use. So why do I have to pay for Gooferment Skrules? Why can’t the folks that have the children, and who pay for feed them, clothe them, and deiced to have them, pay for their education? Why do we run pensioners out of town by crushing property taxes? It’s a criminal disgrace. To enrich politicians and bureaucrats and their toadies?

7. Ayn Rand has a connection to Libertarianism because she showed that “selfishness” is not axiomatically wrong. Just the iconic mocie character Gordon Gecko’s line: “Greed is good” is essentially true. What else makes humans cooperate so well? Nothing like “greed” to make people interested in satisfying other people’s needs. Yeah, too bad, it’s not done for love. But, greed works.

Summary:

I believe that my educational and work experiences have fostered a go-getting spirit, an open mind, and an eagerness to learn.

As a double major, an honors student, and a Presidential scholar, I feel that my work ethic is self-evident. My diligence to scholarly pursuits and my success as a student is clear in my acceptance into five honors societies, including Phi Beta Kappa, and my ranking as Valedictorian for the Manhattan College Undergraduate Class of 2011.

This work ethic is both complemented and enhanced by my campus leadership positions – including, but not limited to, Vice President of my college’s American Advertising Federation chapter – that have rendered me adept in creative problem solving, public/personal relations, prioritizing and multi-tasking.

My decision to earn bachelor degrees in both Advertising and Psychology was out of a desire to understand the consumer mind. I look forward to a career in market research with an emphasis on research planning and account management.

JEMAIL: Toner, Mike (MC1972) thinks I’m excessive

Dear F. John,

I know I’ve asked before, but I will ask again – why do the adjuncts have to put forth any grievance or any reason other than they simply “want to” to form a union? Maybe they simply want to speak with a collective voice when they praise alma mater’s President and administration… Exercise of what should be a right, shouldn’t be contingent upon having a “grievance” or any other circumstance.

Speaking of Jasper Stebbins’ comment about the Inquisition- I was one of the organizers of a small, Holy Week protest outside our diocesan Cathedral. We were protesting the treatment of Maryknoll Father Roy Bourgeois (a quick Google search will explain the circumstances) and the official Church’s closed-mind attitude on women’s ordination. The whole time we were there, an unsmiling usher who had tried to remove us from the public sidewalk, kept watch over us. At one point I asked him if he wished they still had “the rack” for people like us. To his credit he said no he didn’t want the rack, he just wanted us on the other side of the street. In the end, though, he conceded our right to be where we were, and wished us well – a small Easter blessing.

Otherwise, please keep up the good work.

Mike Toner

[JR: (1) A grievance would indicate that the Administration is not being a "good" employer and that maybe there was some rationale to seek the Gooferment's protection. As a religious institution, the First Amendment precludes the Gooferment from becoming involved in any squabble. I fail to see why it's necessary to form a "union" to speak with a collective voice. A "union" implies all sorts of mischief that the Gooferment will make possible (i.e., same sex marriage benefits; abortion insurance coverage; and "work rules"). There is no "right" to be a "union". Only individuals have "rights". Those rights are "negative" in that they delineate generally accepted boundaries between individuals. No one has a "positive" right; like healthcare, or food, or clean water. Because that forces someone else to pay for that "stuff". We, "men of good will", have a self-imposed obligation to help the less fortunate. But there a long way from "free food" to "that what you do for the least of our brethren". And those "negative rights" everyone has are inalienable; meaning that there is nothing that can be done to take then away (i.e., I can't stop you from voicing your opinion). At least that's how I see that. If the adjuncts were being mistreated, then the alums could use their "moral influence" to help. Ostracism, a form of moral influence, is very powerful tool. (2) The usher and you have mutual connection in the Church. You to protest "respectfully"; he to ensure the sanctity of the space "respectfully". Perhaps, you should have gone to the other side of the street and win a friend "inside". That's part of agreeing to disagree agreeably. WWJD? He did get upset with the money changers. So was He like the usher? :-) Us little L libertarians like to convince people by changing their hearts. Confrontation hardens positions; conversations open hearts.]

A 9-11-01 hero remembered on this day of reflection and celebration

*** begin quote ***

One of those men and women was my friends Mike and Elaine.

Mike was a charismatic type of person. Always full of life and lots of fun. Although he was fun he was probably one of the hardest working persons I knew. He worked at a deli, ran a hotdog stand and had a part time job doing engineering work. Doing all of these things while he attending Manhattan College. There was an old joke amongst us. We used to call him the White Jamaican because of all the jobs he held. (After the TV Show “In Living Color”). We would laugh and kid around but there was something I never knew he had an affixing for and that was firefighting. I always thought he was going to be an engineer. I remember one time when we were hanging out down at the Hudson River we looked up at the Henry Hudson Bridge and I said, “Mike how the hell do they secure the pilings into the floor of the river?” He said, “How the hell do I know” with a laugh. He knew though and began to tell me stuff about building bridges and I swear I never knew what he said but I knew he was one of the smartest people I knew.

*** and ***

Mike left behind a beautiful wife, daughter and a baby on the way. He was murdered by Osama Bin Laden and his gang of terrorists.Although we weren’t best friends we were close as all of my childhood friends were. His death left a lasting impact on my life and I will never forget his humor, kindness and determination. Instead of celebration for the death of Osama Bin Laden I’d rather see a reflection of all those who were lost in the war on terror.

Phyllis Mallah’s philosophy when it comes to schools is simple: “A quality education, in a safe environment, as economically as possible.”

It’s on that basis she is running, again, for a seat on the Springs School Board of Education. In 2009, she lost a bid to join the board, but holds hope that this time around, residents will see her value.

Although she already had a master’s degree in elementary education from Manhattanville College, she returned to school for another master’s in supervision and administration from Manhattan College.

While she has retired from teaching, she hasn’t left behind her “passion for maintaining great schools for kids.” An active member of the East Hampton Democratic Committee, she said, “If we do not have an educated population, how do we maintain a democracy?”

JEMAIL: Mangone, Mark (MC1977) thinks I’m deluded

Hello John,

You spoke of regulatory taxes and the minimum wage.

Describing regulations as taxes is deceiving spin that many and obviously you have fallen for. Regulations occur to ensure fairness and maintain a free market. No regulations results in the powerful using their power to tax the weak through the un-free market.

Minimum wage ensures that employment is not exploitation and ensures that we do not lose site of an employment problem. If there is no minimum wage, then people could be employed at wages with which they could not afford to eat. The unemployment rate would be low and everyone would par themselves on the back while these people were starving. A Minimum wage helps the employment statistics to be meaningful so that we can take action when needed.

I did not know that libertarianism meant the tyranny of the powerful.

You also spoke of stealing your wealth through taxation.

Every citizen can vote and participate in government. As such, the American republic is not stealing. You can influence this. If you lose on a issue, sour grapes does not help or benefit you. Get more involved and try harder.

Thanks for providing this forum for discussion. I love a good argument, as I think you do too.

[JR: I'll respond but don't have time at the moment. Needless to say I disagree on ALL points. :-) And, vigorously.]

# – # – #

(1) Regulations: “Free” markets are self-regulating. Reputation is essential in any marketplace. No one needs to “police” the marketplace. Some of the best sources of consumer information come from Underwriters’ Laboratory and Consumers Reports. “Powerful” can’t “tax” anyone. Only the Gooferment can “tax”. As long as markets are free to match buyers and sellers, everyone leaves “satisfied”. The Gooferment is the villain; not the hero. Their “regulations” and taxes distort the market. One can always not “buy” in a free market; try that with the Gooferment where you have to pay for services that you don’t want or can’t use.

(2) Minimum wage: Let me see if I understand this. The Gooferment want all jobs to pay you enough to eat. Yet, if the job doesn’t exist, they’ll pay you to eat? Argh! If I am willing to work for less than the Gooferment’s minimum wage, I can’t? Argh! Unemployment stats are a sham, like most things the Gooferment does or reports. By what Constitutional power does the Gooferment prevent gainful employment. Look at the teen age or minority unemployment rates. Where is the logic that says a kid can’t get his training in the American dream? Minimum wage laws cause unemployment. If both parties are willing, why is the Gooferment interfering. The correct minimum wage is zero. Mental experiment: Raise the minimum wage to 20$/hour. People should have a good life with that wage. The fact that many jobs would be eliminated shouldn’t deter you. The Gooferment can provide. Argh!

(3) Voting: If voting made any difference, then “they” wouldn’t allow it to happen. Hopeless! The American “republic” is an illusion. Sop to the masses. The effete elite control the politicians and bureaucrats, who in turn control the people. I lose on EVERY issue EVERY time. So how did I incur this obligation to pay and pay and pay? Dead Old White Guys agreed two centuries ago to some “stuff” and I am some how bound. I don’t think so. I chose “not to play”. Like the movie “War Games”. You can rob me, abuse me, and torment me, but I will not agree to your shackles. Secession is the only real alternative. The takers can always outvote the producers. As a producer, I have to stop rowing until the “dead weight” gets with the program. The politicians and bureaucrats don’t even follow their own rules. We need a “good” revolution.

JEMAIL: Breen, Jerry (MC1971) disagrees with my take on OBL

John: I respect your opinion regarding Bin Laden’s summary execution, although, obviously, I disagree. (My second cartoon, which I sent today, addresses the issue of whether the Navy Seals violated Bin Laden’s “rights”.) Even though war is what happens when the normal rules of conduct between nations breaks down, there nevertheless are some rules of war. Most people have the misconception that the Geneva Convention guarantees some universal human rights to all combatants. This is a myth, like the idea that ship captains have the authority to marry people. The Geneva Convention is a treaty among nations guaranteeing the human rights of the uniformed soldiers and diplomats of the signatory nations. Spies, saboteurs and terrorists, whether they’re working for a signatory nation or not, have no rights. Nor should they. In World War II, when Nazi saboteurs were arrested in the U.S., they were given quick military trials, and all but two were given quick executions. That was more than they deserved. When a terrorist mastermind responsible for many attacks worldwide and the murder of thousands of innocent civilians is apprehended (following a gunfight, whether or not he was involved), he has no rights. He should be executed on sight. No questions asked, no chance of surrender. The actions of the U.S. government, from the President down to the soldiers on the scene, were perfectly appropriate. And perfectly legal. – Jerry Breen

# – # – #

MY RESPONSE:

Of course, everyone’s opinion is respected. And we can “agree to disagree agreeably”.

(1) But, I don’t think you can compare what was done in a declared war (i.e., ww2) with what is done today (i.e., the president acts like an American version of nutty King George the Third starting undeclared wars where ever when ever it suits his sagging poll numbers). The Geneva Convention is a dead letter. The days of great armies fighting is yesterday’s thinking. Like the American Civil War being fought using the French and English tactics of the 1700′s. (That’s why casualties were so high. Stand men up in open fields in straight lines with powerful ordinance firing on them. Asinine! But that’s the Gooferment making war. Notice the general led from the rear.)

(2) As they say in Perry Mason movies, “assume facts not yet in evidence”. You say “terrorist mastermind responsible for … and the murder … apprehended”, and to quote Tom Cruise’s character in “A Few Good Men”, “And, of course you have evidence”. No, the American Gooferment, the people in power of both parties, have been blowing smoke up our collective <synonym for a few donkeys> for so long, people don’t trust anything they say. I don’t. OBL may or may not be that. I do know that when it suited our purposes, he was our ally. When it didn’t he became the face of evil. So you have proof that he was doing and not just claiming the work of others?

(3) I’m not a lawyer; nor do I play one on TV. But, Judge Andrew Neapolitano asserts that this killing broke at least 3 treaties, 4 Federal Laws, and some Executive Orders dating back decades. In my own fat old white guy injineer’s brain, I ask where does the Prez get to order assassinations? Today, it’s OBL. Who’s next? It’s clear that none of the rules apply today. American citizens are targeted. No one’s rights are respected.

(4) As far as “executed on sight”, I have a strategic and tactical objections. Strategically, what happens when someone does that to our leaders or to our people? Tactically, when you kill someone, you lose any chance to get information from them. “An eye for an eye leaves the whole word blind”.

And, I don’t want a Gooferment that is empowered to kill at a whim. Yes, there are very bad people out there. Some times you must put down a “mad dog”. Two or four legged. But, we better be real sure that everyone is treated fairly. Or, someday, it could be a sarcastic cartoonist or a fat old white guy injineer who are at Gitmo on the way to burial at sea.

fjohn68

P.S., We were told that he had many doubles. There were pictures of them. How do we know that the Pak version of the CIA didn’t set this all up to fool us? Yeah, that couldn’t possibly happen. Our Gooferment is too smart. Our own CIA would do something like that to fool the American people to take their mind of gas prices?

Secede from the USA. For example, HI, VT, NH, SC, and TX. Each has a “secession movement”. Add UT with its passage of “gold as money” and ND with the only “state bank” in the 50 states are positioned for departure as well. Like the old Soviet Union, the facade of a “national government” can literally dissolve overnight. Then maybe we can get back to the small government republics that the Dead Old White Guys gave us.

>the Hyde Amendment

This is a wink and a nod to the pro-life Constitutional and moral objection to abortion. And, it’s dead. Do you really think a pro-abortion President is observing the “rules”? And a Chicago politician at that. Or that “his” Justice Department is going to call anyone out on it?

(I’m not seeking to start an argument. Everyone knows I have my hands full responding to Stebbins, Donald M. (MC1961) and he’s relentless.)

I learned at MC in eckeynomics class that money is …

“Money is a matter of functions four, a medium, a measure, a standard, a store.” He repeated that four times like poetry. “Six Characters in Money: Portable – Durable – Divisible – Uniformity – Limited Supply – Acceptability.” — CHURCH 10●19●62 (Vol 1) 978-0-557-08387-9 page 110

… “uniform”. So if Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion provider, has a budget and SOME of that budget comes from Federal funds, we’re paying for it. Yeah, yeah, I know, they pretend to make a pile over here that’s different from that pile over there. But we all KNOW that’s more smoke and mirrors.

Sorry, I object to any Federal or State involvement in the Culture of Death. It’s abhorrent that I force to support this immoral activity. And, I am ashamed that I am unable to stop it. In a certain sense, I admire the anti-war activists of the Seventies who refused to pay that portion of their taxes that went to pay for the VietNam war. That admiration is tempered with the sure and certain knowledge that the “anti-war movement was political”. That is as long as the D’s are in power, war’s OK. BHO44 starts a war in Libya and no one makes a stink other than Ron Paul.

So yes, I know that there is a Hyde amendment. And, yes, I KNOW it’s meaningless.

But, thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent. And, thanks for participating. It’s nice to know I have at least one reader who gets all the way to the end.

by reinkefj

Don’t get too excited. The first edition had a ton of typos. And, there are still a few in version “M”. Trying to decide if I should bother doing a version 2 a clean up the rest of them.

Remember it’s fiction. That’s why there’s no sex before marriage. It was set mostly in the Sixties. In Catholic school. And, like my ingineering papers, I dragged in every idea I ever had or heard. :-) As far as where it came from, I was a terrible student. Until my future wife came along mid-college, I was a really really terrible student. Day dreamer. So what does a testosterone ladened little boy do when forced by the good Brothers to sit in church. They were of the delusion that sitting in church somehow piety would go from the pew, through one’s , up to the brain, where I’d be come religious. Also, remember what 10/19/62 was! We were all being drilled to hide from the Abomb under our desks. More stupidity. Ever seen a picture of Hiroshima. So, I daydreamed what I would do.

“CHURCH 10●19●62″ was spawned in Good Shepherd Church too many decades ago.

When challenged by my late wife, “kwityurbellyachin”, after hearing “I could write a book” too many times in our marriage. Lovingly of course. I had to update it a little. My wife become the heroine. And, every adventure needs a hero, that needed no update. But, for the most part, the daydream just flowed to the keyboard. I think only about four or five connector chapters had to be really “written”.

“500 words over a weekend”, nah, ingineers rarely were asked to write anything but numbers. :-) Any way, I wrote 5,000 words every morning from 5AM to 6AM for the better part of a year. It was easy.

The Library, I’m told, has a section for Jasper Authors. I donated my book. I know others have. I assume were are all DWARFED by Patterson.

Since I have nothing better to do, I have another “in progress” and outlines of 14 others I want to get done before the “bell tolls”. And, since we “know not the day; nor the hour”, I’m feeling a little pressure.

I’m amazed that Patterson was CEO of JWT when he wrote the first 5 or 10 of his Alex Cross series. That’s talent. Sigh. I’m just the fat old white guy injineer. Plodding along.

There was a joke in my family, that since I sign the copies that I give out, or any that folks buy and bring for me to sign, that some day 100 or 200 years from now, some long lost relative will show up with an unread pristine copy to “Antiques Roadshow”. The conversation will go, “It’s an excellent example of a self-published early American Primitive from the beginning of the era of self publishing when people could print anything and did. Because of the hidden provenance here on pages 37 and 51, as well as the elaborate message to the buyer, we estimate at auction it will bring between 100 and 500 ounces of gold. It’s an absolutely stunning piece in mint condition. Thank you for bringing it in.” ROFL. That and we debate who will play the heroic “john” when it’s made into a movie. I vote for John Candie. Yeah, I know. That’s as likely as it being made into a movie.

Silliness abounds,
