POSITRACTION: Vocations via the inet

Dutch sister’s online vocation efforts bearing fruit
By David Kerr

*** begin quote ***

Rome, Italy, Oct 21, 2011 / 06:13 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Sister Elvira Maria de Witt, DCJ, is an opera singer turned nun who has found a new way to win vocations to the religious life—by going online.

“The Netherlands had a lot of missionaries. I didn’t come into this congregation, give up my whole career as a singer – and I was really good – to let it die. Come on Jesus!” the feisty, young Dutch religious sister told CNA while visiting Rome.

“But I asked myself, where should I find new people?”

So, after considering going to bars and soccer games to find young people but concluding “I don’t think I can go there,” she came up with her bold broadband plan.

*** and ***

“The Netherlands is a good example of how things shouldn’t work: there is no catechism in the Catholic schools, there are no Catholic schools – only in name – but inside you see nothing,” she said.

*** end quote ***

This is a “positive” in that the Church is reaching souls over the internet. Grasping the latest tech to extend. Since folks are reachable via this new tech, it makes sense to go where the eyeballs are. Vocations? Is there an app for that? That’s where the next spurt will come form. imho!

It’s a negative “endnote” in that comment “no catechism in the Catholic schools”. That just reinforces that the “war” (against “Secular Progressive” Gooferment Skrules brainwashing children) on that “front” is lost. This opens up a new “front” that bypasses politicians and bureaucrats.

10 major scandals in college sports
Staff and wire reports

*** begin quote ***

Scandals of all kinds have tarnished college sports for decades, though what is unfolding at Penn State is hard to compare to any of them.

*** and ***

10. Players from six college basketball teams, including 1950 NCAA and NIT champion City College of New York, and 33 players were found to be involved and manipulating the results of games for bettors in 1951. The other schools involved were Manhattan College, Long Island University, New York University, Bradley University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Toledo. Kentucky canceled its 1952-53 season because of the scandal.

[JR: While I'm not happy about Penn State, this cloud's silver lining is that it should bump MC off this dubious top ten by pushing everyone down to make room at the top.]

Our team went on winning a few more games, and it was a total team effort. Then the sleeping giant woke up. At one point Melo shouted out my way “I’m guarding you, now you are not going to score,” and it was clear his competitive side was coming out.

What came next? Well, like I said, we woke up a sleeping giant! At one point, he nailed a seemingly no-look 40-foot game-winner in my face. There was nothing I could do but give the man his due. Dude’s got game.

Anyway, just another day at Chelsea Piers. Good day of run, great day to get my game tuned up.

How did that slip in? Hmmm, never knew many Mounties. They rarely got to Fanny Farmer. Unless attached to a date.

[JR: There was one young lady from the Mount I knew that hung with me and my rowdie friends both at the Red Garter and the pack's bachelor pad. Don't remember her name. Only her "pack name", "Mountie Moose". Which I remember came from the noise she could emit when consuming large amounts of adult beverages. Yeah, we'd have contests. We tried to convince her to switch from science to injineering 'cause she was a good egg. She thought she could make a life in "chemistry"; hope she did. When the Garter closed, so did our pack. Good thing, otherwise I probably would have flunked out. Sad, Gerdie's fire, Red Garter closed, The Beatles and drugs destroyed folk music — all that put me where I am today. Sadly! Dona Nobis Pacem. And, yes, I did pass Latin at the prep. Must be olds-heimers creeping up. Dona Nobis Pacem!]

ENDNOTE: The many faces of “the death penalty”

WND RADIO COMMENTARY
Savage: Liberals now support death penalty?
Talk host asks why left, media celebrating execution of Gadhafi
Posted: October 21, 2011 1:40 pm Eastern

*** begin quote ***

Why are anti-death-penalty liberals, of all people, supporting the execution of a head of state?

That’s the question asked by Michael Savage at the opening of his top-rated talk-radio show yesterday following the killing of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

*** and ***

“Why are, all of a sudden, war-mongers and death-penalty advocates so full of themselves?” he asked. “When Obama invades a country, it’s OK. When Obama executes someone, it’s OK; but when Bush did the same thing, it was a violation of human rights.”

It seems, Savage said, that “some dictators more equal than others.”

“Gadhafi is bad, but Assad in Syria is good? Ahmadinejad is good?” he asked.

“While the Hitler of Iran is invited to dinner at Columbia,” Savage observed, referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, “Gadhafi gets a bullet to the head. Why?”

*** end quote ***

As a little L libertarian and fat old white guy injineer, it seems that abortion, the death penalty, and the “Just War” are all tied together.

While everyone celebrated OBL’s death, I wondered how this was Constitutional, moral, and effective.

Then “we” “nuked” that American citizen, AAA (i.e., Anwar Al-Awlaki), I wondered how this was Constitutional and moral.

Now, “we” “nuke” Muammar Gaddafi. Yeah maybe we did not directly pull the trigger. But we certainly put him in the cross hairs.

(One has to question BHO44′s foreign policy. Where is the balance against Iran? Israel is in the cross hairs. Radical Islam is empowered. Was BHO44 an Islamic “Manchurian Candidate” all along?)

We’re putting “droning” Yemen and putting troops into Uganda.

Sorry, but we are along way from the Constitution, the “Just War”, and — by the way — morality.

MYOB should be our “foreign policy”.

And, how about we bring our troops home from Korea, Germany, and the other hundred or so countries were in.

2012 should be an interesting election for “pro-life-ers”. How pro-life are they?
